The Iliad and The Odyssey (Fagles translation) Homer

The Iliad (or Song of Troy) is an epic poem set during the Trojan War. We'll set aside for the moment the inevitable questions of the pedagogical efficacy of that and move on to this: During my last year there, we adopted the Fagels Iliad, kept the Lattimore Odyssey over Fagels', and used the Fitzgerald Aeneid. I know I might be oversimplifying this, but in my opinion the Odyssey in its own way shows a slightly better side of the human psyche, and that is why it we might like it more over Iliad. @bea2345 : As an undergraduate, I had the Lattimore translation, and then later in graduate school, the wonderful Fagles translations were published.
